Chapter 4

Eric could barely stand to lie down. His backside was burning all over; his muscles were sore and his skin was ice cold. All he could hear was Freyda’s cackle and Compton’s taunting. It took a while, but Eric had finally managed to block out all the pain and the voices.

Was this what Jade was warning me about? This is what’s in store for me if I stick around? Can I even choose to leave?

He didn’t know what to do, what to decide; all he can think is that he’s stuck here with this psycho of a woman. Eric wondered what more was in store for him? He didn’t even want to know. He attempted to turn, but winced when he felt the pain on his back. He had never felt so sore before. Eric silently went straight to the bathroom to take a hot shower. He looked at himself in the mirror and gasped. He looked horrible. There were dark circles under his eyes, he looked paler than a vampire, and he felt a little chilly. He took a hot shower enjoying the feel of heat on his wounded skin.

Once he was finished, he puts on a pair of sleeping pants then drops back on the bed. He cringes feeling the sting of pain. He instantly fell asleep. Eric had been too stiff to move with his back in pain. He could barely move from the spot on the bed. The images of getting beaten flashed through his mind as he lay there sleeping. He closed his eyes tightly, willing the tears of humiliation away.

Darkness engulfs him.

After a long day, Jade finally made it home. As soon as the door closed, her daughter came running down the stairs looking excited. “Mommy!” she screeched. She smiled at her darling little one; it always makes her heart soar when she’s see the happiness and excitement on her face. It reminded her of a time when she was happy to see her father come home from the gym after training fighters. Then she would remember how he would pick her up and swing her around feeling just as happy to see her.

“Hey, little lady, mommy missed you. Did you have a good day with daddy today?”

“Yes, mommy. Daddy took us to the zoo then for ice cweam.” Jade laughed delighted with her daughter’s enthusiasm. Her little one reminded her so much of herself when she was young; always excited, happy and talkative. Her father would sit Jade on his lap and listen intently as she went on about her day and just smile with content. She was lucky to have such an awesome family. A loving husband who she owes her life to; if it weren’t for him, she’d be dead and her family would be torn apart.

Following that thought, she recalled a time when drama was waiting around the corner for her. Starting off with her mother; father had told Jade that her mother abandoned them with she was just a baby. She left without a word, or a warning, never to be heard from again. And daddy was devastated. Then, by the time she was twelve, she turned up again, dressed in rags, horrible and looking sickly thin. She was barely recognizable. That was an image of her mother that haunted her dreams every night.

She was in her bedroom as she listened to her dad scream and yell at her with so much hurt and rage; it made Jade fear the worst. She had never seen him that way before, or her mother. And she desperately hoped to never see them that way again. Her mother begged to see her again, and dad sternly refused. Afterwards, there was a slam, then silence.

Jade held her knees against her chest, her face buried in her knees as her tears soaked her pajama pants. She looked up as her door opened, her father standing there looking upset, defeated. He instantly picked up his daughter, held her and rocked her back and forth as she sobbed into his shoulder.

That was one of the many memories she’d rather forget, a time when her father was lost and incredibly sad. She vowed to herself that she would never ever be anything like her mother; she will make damn sure her children know that she’ll always love them and will always be there for them; No matter what.

Being a 13 year old with no proper female influence was hard, she had no one there to help her with all the problems a normal 13 year old girl could have. It sucked. No one there to tell her about puberty, the monthly curse and sex. That is, until Freyda came along…Jade knows exactly what kind of person she is, and what she’s capable of. Of course, when they were kids, she hadn’t seen it at the time, but Jade was young, alone and sad with no friends. She may have had her father and he tried…but it was not enough.

So in eighth grade, she met Freyda McQueens. And little did she know she had become friends with the devil…

Short chapter. Sorry about that. This is just a glimpse in Jade’s past. More will be revealed in due time. Stay tuned for another chapter…whenever that may be. LOL.
